The Philly cheesesteak scene just keeps getting more and more exciting, and it is innovators like Woodrow's Sandwich Shop who are now leading the way.
Woodrow's is on South Street between 6th and 7th, just a couple of short blocks away from Ishkabibble's and Jim's South Street. The place may not look like much at first glance, but it has attracted attention from Guy Fieri's Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives on the Food Network, and was named "Best New Sandwich Shop 2016" and "Best Party Caterer 2018" by Philadelphia magazine.
As its name suggests, Woodrow's is a superb-quality artisan sandwich shop. Selections include coffee BBQ brisket, basil caper chicken, and a vegetarian falafel BLT (where the "B" is for "beet"), with available toppings like cherry pepper mayo and chipotle aioli. Woodrow's also offers some of the best house-cut French fries and Cajun fries that you will find anywhere in the city. Interested in Maine Root Soda? Woodrow's carries that too.
But the masterpiece, of course, is the fabulous cheesesteak, lovingly lathered with Woodrow's signature house-made truffle whiz, with just a little bit of that cherry pepper mayo added in. The whiz is out of this world, resulting in a taste experience that is unlike any other, and Woodrow's is the only place you can get it. The truffle whiz goes equally well with the chicken steak.
There are plenty of good steaks to be had on South Street, and Woodrow's is one you will definitely not want to miss.
