FRANKLIN SQUARE
CHINESE LANTERNS, MINI-GOLF AND MORE
Franklin Square (originally North Publick Square), on North 6th Street near the Ben Franklin Bridge, was one of the 5 original squares envisioned by William Penn. But until recent years, it sucked. Over many decades, it had been the poster child for urban blight. William Penn himself probably would have avoided it.
Boy has that ever changed.
Located a short walk from the Old City, the Historic Area, Chinatown, and the Convention Center, Franklin Square is now a beautiful park filled with cool attractions for young and old, be they Philly residents or out-of-town visitors - from the start of summer through the end of August.
Let's have a look, shall we?
CHINESE LANTERN FESTIVAL

Admission to this spectacular one-of-a-kind festival is free during the day. At night, endless colorful lantern displays - including the Festival's iconic 200-foot-long dragon - come alive with light. There is food, drink, and live entertainment for all.
PHILLY MINI-GOLF

Grab a putter and try your luck on a beautifully landscaped miniature golf course featuring replicas of Philly's most iconic landmarks - Independence Hall, the Liberty Bell, the Art Museum, the LOVE sculpture, Boathouse Row, Elfreth's Alley, and much more.
PARX LIBERTY CAROUSEL

It is only fitting that the area's premiere racetrack would sponsor a unique Philly-themed carousel where you can take an exciting ride on a Chinatown dragon, or Philly's famed thoroughbred Smarty Jones, or even an American bald eagle (Go Birds).
FOUNTAIN SHOW

Built in 1838, the fountain is Franklin Square's centerpiece and has been lovingly restored. Every 30 minutes, visitors enjoy a free choreographed water and light show set to music.
