The Flyers won 2 Stanley Cups in their first 8 seasons, and things were looking bright. But they have made it to the Stanley Cup Finals 6 times since then... and lost every time.

Not exactly a blaze of glory.

 

But believe it or not, other sports teams have had similar or worse misfortune in championship play.

The Bills lost four straight Super Bowls in 1991, 1992, 1993, and 1994, and have never won a Super Bowl.

 

The New York (football) Giants played in 5 NFL title games in 6 seasons from 1958 to 1963 and lost every one. The only year they missed was 1960, when the Eagles defeated the Packers.

The New York (baseball) Giants appeared in 12 World Series in 41 seasons from 1911 to 1951 and lost 9 times.

But the award for championship futility has to go to the Lakers. In the 12 seasons from 1959 to 1970, they made 8 trips to the NBA Finals and lost all 8 times, including 7 against the Celtics.
