DEL ROSSI'S
NORTHERN LIBERTIES SENSATION
What an amazing time we live in. And what an amazing city Philadelphia is. The lengths to which some places now go to create the ultimate cheesesteak are astounding. This city has always been known for its cheesesteaks, but these days we are a truly in a golden (or at least whiz-colored) age of innovation.
After he purchased Del Rossi's in 2020, Nish Patel decided he would create that perfect cheesesteak, and had a vision for how to do it.
He may have succeeded.
Patel reasoned that the key ingredient to any cheesesteak is the roll and resolved that he would go and create the greatest cheesesteak roll Philly had ever seen. He approached the master of masters, Danny DiGiampietro (owner of Angelo's, and now also co-owner of Danny & Coop's and Uncle Gus'), for advice. DiGiampietro took a liking to Patel and mentored him through Bread Baking 101.
Patel's next stop was Cleveland, where he spent time creating baguettes in a baking equipment maker's test kitchen. Finally, Patel somehow found a bread consultant from western Canada to help him select equipment, and then brought him to Philadelphia, where the two of them went to work testing and crafting their way to that ideal roll.
And the result? A delicate and absolutely delicious seeded sourdough roll that is crispy on the outside, soft on the inside, and able to withstand all of the freshly grilled meat, cheese, and onions Del Rossi's can stuff into it. All baking is done from scratch on premises.
Del Rossi's cheesesteaks are a sensation. They are as good as any you will find in Philadelphia. The store is located in a pleasant neighborhood slightly north of Spring Garden on 4th Street. The staff are friendly and there is a decent amount of comfortable indoor seating. And Philly sports fans will enjoy finding the logos of the Eagles, Phillies, 76ers, Flyers, and Union hidden in the colorful murals that decorate the store inside and out.
