OH BROTHER
OLD CITY'S NEWEST HOTSPOT
If you decide to plant yourself literally on the same block as two of Philly's top steakeries, Campo's and Sonny's, you had better have something special to offer. Oh Brother has taken on that challenge and succeeded.
When it comes to cheesesteaks, Oh Brother goes the extra mile. 100% fresh ribeye. Rolls, seeded or not, with a perfect thin layer of crispness. And cheese? Not just the standard choices (including Cooper Sharp), but four (4) different varieties of whiz - or perhaps you would prefer Swiss, caramelized onions, and creamy horseradish sauce on your French Onion steak... or maybe even a Shroom Truffle steak with truffle crème fraîche, Gruyère cheese, and some shredded portabella mushroom. There is even a gluten-free option.
The number of mouth-watering choices here (all executed flawlessly) could make your head explode. There is also an equally imaginative burger menu. And eight (8) different types of fries including truffle Parmesan, chili lime, sweet potato, and bacon cheese. Oh, and don't forget the milkshakes - each one more decadent than the last. Or if you would prefer, a menu of desserts that are even more decadent than the milkshakes.
If you have any room left when they finally roll you out the pillared entrance, you can head next door for their wood-fired pizza.
Oh brother.
Oh Brother now has two other locations, one on North Broad Street by Temple University and one way up in the Northeast at the corner of Roosevelt Boulevard and Red Lion Road. But if you visit the mother ship on Market Street, you are in for an unexpected visual treat - a "Last Supper" wall painting featuring 9 famous sports and entertainment figures associated with Philadelphia, all seated on both sides of a sunglasses-wearing "godfather" in a three-piece suit who bears an uncanny resemblance to Ben Franklin.
